Threes Brewing

Other Half and Threes Brewing Crawl

Looking for Other Half? Look for the door a few feet to the right of this.

With the official opening of Threes Brewing this past Thursday, a few of us members of the Beer Advocate Forum decided to check out the new space. Since Other Half Brewing is within walking distance, we decided to meet up there first. A bunch of us made the trek out to Gowanus to start the day enjoying some of New York City’s finest beers.

Other Half’s popularity is soaring in New York City right now. This is evident over on the Beer Advocate forums where a thread about Other Half has nearly 800 replies and 42,500 views. It also helps that Other Half releases a new beer almost every week which keeps them fresh and innovative. On this day I enjoyed their First Gold Pale Ale, Grand Cru Flanders Red Ale, All I See Is Green IPA, and their standard Other Half IPA. A nice surprise came out when the Other Half staff opened a bottle of 2013 Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad and shared it with our group.

Beer Advocate members enjoying some great beer

After enjoying many great beers from Other Half, we headed out for the 1.4 miles walk over to Threes Brewing. Thankfully the sun was out and the windchill was low, so the walk over was a nice one.

Strolling through Gowanus

After a 20 minute walk, we arrived at Threes Brewing. There was a small fire there right before the grand opening, but thankfully there were no injuries and minimal damage. We headed to the bar and I started off with their Arboretum Pale Ale, a fruity pale with notes of apricots (my review of it here). Being that I have tried most of Threes’ beers already, I wanted to try something off the 24 draft beer list that I have not tasted before. I ordered a Kiuchi Hitochino Nest Anbai Ale, a tart and fruity gose brewed with plums that was absolutely delicious. After drinking that beer and eating a Delaney’s brisket taco, it was time to call it a day.

It was a great day of drinking beers and getting to meet some fellow craft beer fans.
